Mudlarking clay pipes

Do you know what mudlarks are? They search in the mud near rivers for items of interest or value. Mudlarks found these clay pipes on the foreshore of the River Thames. Clay pipes are one of the most common items to be found, and can be anywhere between 400 and 100 years old. People smoked the pipes and, when they broke, threw them in the river!

In Victorian times, people made a living from mudlarking and selling what they found. It was a dirty and dangerous job. Now mudlarks do it for fun (although you need to get a licence). What other things do you think they find?
