Dockyard medicine bottles

Medicine comes in many different forms, including as liquids, tablets, creams and injections. These eighteenth century medicine bottles were found during excavations near the Surgeon’s House at Woolwich Dockyard. For 350 years ships were built and repaired at Woolwich.

New medicines and treatments mean doctors have more ways of helping their patients than in the eighteenth century. Medicine is constantly evolving. During the pandemic, doctors have been learning how to treat those with the virus and developing a vaccine against it.
