Luftwaffe map of Woolwich

German wartime bombing had a huge impact on London and Londoners. When we look around us, we can still see the effects on our city. Woolwich was targeted because of the Royal Arsenal and the many other factories in the area making weapons and other military equipment. These include Siemens, who we also feature in the exhibition.

This map was used by the German air force – the Luftwaffe – to identify which areas of Woolwich to bomb. Can you see any places you recognise?
